Chris Edwards who sits in Assembly seat 19 made an appearance on KPNR’s State of Nevada last week – and, well it was sort of a fact and reality free interview, where even the host had to correct the Assemblyman.
You can listen to the interview here……it’s good for some giggles & eye rolls: https://knpr.org/knpr/2017-02/nv-lawmaker-says-trumps-ban-may-be-good-thing
Edwards didn’t know or was oblivious to the fact that there hasn’t been a domestic US terrorist attack since 9/11/2001 carried out by someone that just came into the country. Ft Hood was carried out by a US solider, so he didn’t just enter the country……..the Orlando attack was done by a US citizen……….The San Bernardino attack was carried out by a US citizen……… ..and the Boston Bombing was done by two brothers who had been living in the US for more than a few years.
All-righty then! At least Assemblyman Edwards is sticking to Kelly Anne Conway type alternative facts!
Then Mr. Edwards goes on to bemoan that students today, aren’t being taught the facts! And this comes after Mr. Edwards says he is an adjunct professor at a local college (which one he didn’t mention probably because it’s not good advertising for said college when one of their prof’s whiffs on widely known facts).
And to continue the fact free 13 (13:19 is the length of the audio segment), Edwards stated that the “Muslim Ban” would not be a rallying point for ISIS & other groups – again Edwards opts for the reality free version of which more than a few sources disagree.
President Donald Trump’s travel ban on seven Muslim-majority nations will be used by ISIS as a recruitment tool, giving the militant group a major propaganda boost, former jihadists have told CNN. http://www.cnn.com/2017/01/30/politics/trump-ban-boosts-isis-recruitment/
Donald Trump’s travel ban on refugees and visitors from seven Muslim countries entering the US makes a terrorist attack on Americans at home or abroad more rather than less likely. It does so because one of the main purposes of al-Qaeda and Isis in carrying out atrocities is to provoke an overreaction directed against Muslim communities and states. Such communal punishments vastly increase sympathy for Salafi-jihadi movements among the 1.6 billion Muslims who make up a quarter of the world’s population http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/trump-muslim-ban-terrorism-isis-only-make-it-worse-a7552776.html
The decision by President Donald Trump to temporarily ban anyone from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the US continues to provoke anger and criticism in the Middle East. It could also hamper his administration’s ability to prosecute the war on ISIS – a task which Secretary of State designate Rex Tillerson has described as the administration’s “foremost priority in the Middle East”.
On Friday, Trump suspended for at least 90 days the entry of people from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen, while his government came up with a tougher vetting mechanism. The move has been roundly criticized around the world, particularly in the countries targeted by the policy.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry described it as “a great gift to extremists and their supporters” and submitted a letter of protest to the US via the Swiss embassy in Tehran (which handles US consular affairs in Iran). Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif criticized the policy in a series of tweets, saying “collective discrimination aids terrorist recruitment” and adding that “Iran will take reciprocal measures to protect citizens.” http://www.forbes.com/sites/dominicdudley/2017/01/29/trump-muslim-ban/#43c9cf506c6f
Jihadist groups on Sunday celebrated the Trump administration’s ban on travel from seven Muslim-majority countries, saying the new policy validates their claim that the United States is at war with Islam.
Comments posted to pro-Islamic State social media accounts predicted that President Trump’s executive order would persuade American Muslims to side with the extremists. One posting hailed the U.S. president as “the best caller to Islam,” while others predicted that Trump would soon launch a new war in the Middle East. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/jihadist-groups-hail-trumps-travel-ban-as-a-victory/2017/01/29/50908986-e66d-11e6-b82f-687d6e6a3e7c_story.html?utm_term=.ad79aae158cb
I don’t mean to pick on Edwards here, but the facts and reality don’t align with what Edwards was saying – Misspeaking is one thing, but outright denial of reality is another and the denial of reality is sweeping through portions of the republican world like wild fire – and this is a fire that needs to be doused whenever it flares up.
